World Cup 2015: USWNT Draws Group Of Death
By Josh Hill
The Women’s World Cup will be held next year in Canada, and today’s drawing of the groups gives the USWNT an idea of their road to the World Cup Final.
This past summer, the USMNT failed to make it out of the first round of tournament play in the World Cup down in Brazil, but American soccer fans need not wait four years to see a title come home to the States. The Women’s World Cup will be held next year in the host country of Canada, with the USWNT ready to get rolling on winning another World Cup title.

It has been over a decade since the USWNT with their World Cup title in 1999 and since then they’ve failed to win the tournament again. In 2003 they finished in third place, following that up with another third place finish in 2007. The 2011 World Cup was the closest they came to restoring the glory as the USWNT lost in the World Cup Final to Japan.
This time, things are a little closer to home, as Canada hosting the games will mean a short ride for the women of the US World Cup squad. On Saturday, they learned which group they had drawn, with Group D being the group Team USA will have to come out of. The only thing about that is, Group D happens to be this year’s ‘Group of Death.’
In order to make it to tournament play, the USWNT will have to make it through Australia, Sweden and Nigeria. All three squads are some of the toughest squads in the world, which makes the job for Team USA even harder.
Still, the team has over a year to prepare for the World Cup, and hopefully the short travel from America to Canada will result in some sort of home field advantage.
