Letting Jeremy Lin go was the biggest mistake of Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob, he says.

Before Jeremy Lin became a household name (or at least mildly close to one) with the New York Knicks, the point guard was scoring buckets with the Golden State Warriors.

Lin was used as a reserve in the Bay Area and only averaged nine minutes in 29 games, but many fans believed they had something special in the undrafted talent out of Harverd. That included Golden state Warriors owner Joe Lacob who admits the biggest regret of his tenure as owner of the franchise is letting Jeremy Lin go.

“I had a coaching staff that didn’t really use him and didn’t see what we saw and he wound up going somewhere else and becoming Jeremy Lin,” said Lacob. “That’s a little bit of a regret that I didn’t trust my own gut just a little bit stronger when it came down to the decision. It was complicated and there were trade-offs. It’s like anything else and I can’t get into what those trade-offs were, but there were.”

Jeremy Lin of course went on to have an absurd amount of quick success with the Knicks which ended up in the point guard securing himself a big contract from the Houston Rockets.

That relationship didn’t work out very well though as the Rockets, looking to clear cap space, traded Lin back to California where he joined the Los Angeles Lakers this past offseason. Things however have started off rocky for the Palo Alto native who is currently experiencing his worst season the NBA.

You can’t help but wonder how well Jeremy Lin would be playing in the up-tempo Golden State Warriors system.

Lin will be a free agent at season end, so perhaps he’ll help Lacob and company fix their mistake.
