The Los Angeles Lakers could have interest in a trade for Brooklyn Nets center Brook Lopez.

Unless the Los Angeles Lakers finish the season with a top five pick, their first-round selection will go to the Phoenix Suns meaning the impact player so many hope for in Hollywood will unlikely come via the draft.

That leaves the Los Angeles Lakers front office in need of a trade and Brook Lopez could be a target of Mitch Kupchak and company according to ESPN’s Chad Ford.

Unfortunately for the Lakers, while they may have interest in the talented though oft-injured big, they may not have the pieces needed to get a deal done.

"The Lakers could be motivated as the only way they even land a lottery pick is if they get a Top 5 pick. They are cutting it very close. The problem of course is that the Lakers don’t have much to offer the Nets outside of cap relief and Billy King isn’t trying to do what’s best for the organization, he’s trying to save his job."

While that does hold true, it’s unlikely that teams will be lining up for the services of Brook Lopez who has a notorious history of foot problems and is a free agent to be. That also will likely reduce the asking price of the Brooklyn Nets and if the Lakers were willing to absorb a big contract (Joe Johnson, for example), you have to think the Lakers would be an option the Nets would consider.

All that said, it’s questionable if Los Angeles would be open to taking on any additional large salary just to acquire Brook Lopez.

Still, it seems as if the two sides could potentially be in the right position to strike a deal if they so inclined.
