Instead of following Google’s model though, the company is taking the technology in a new direction, making the device a clip-on item as opposed to a pair of glasses with the technology internally equipped.

The company release states:

"With this module, Sony has achieved a compactness of size and a lightness of weight that make it possible to attach the module to a piece of eyewear. It accomplished this by equipping the device with a High-Resolution Color OLED Microdisplay, a Micro-Optical Unit that brings out the full potential of the display’s high image quality, and a miniaturized control board with arithmetic processing capabilities on par with smartphones that was made possible by high-density packaging technology."

At first, this seems like some heady stuff that can’t possibly have more than a few practical applications, but think of this a bluetooth for a myriad of functions on your smart phone. You can find the distance on the golf course or enhance your learning an instrument or a sport. You can find your speed and distance while going for a jog or a bike ride.

Imagine bringing up the sheet music off your phone for a song on piano, then seeing it scroll right over your glasses as you play. It could even respond to the notes you’re hitting and highlight corrections.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg for this technology, which remains in testing phase and without a price point, which could define its success.

There is also no word on whether or not Sony will cancel the release of these glasses because someone threatened to do mean things to them.
