As part of a planned NBA franchise re-branding set to take place beginning next season, the Toronto Raptors have introduced a new logo. In addition, the organization is expected to release new uniforms and team colors as well.
A commercial that recently started airing on television has been posted to YouTube. The campaign, “This Is Our Shield,” as it has come to be known as, teases the new logo, which rapper Drake had reportedly been credited with helping design.
National Post basketball reporter Eric Koreen released the colored version of the logo on Twitter today. However, later on he posted an update saying that the circle around the logo was actually white, as shown on the team’s official Facebook page.
If the aforementioned reports are true, and they appear to be, it would be heavily implied that the purple color scheme, long part of the Toronto-based franchise, is being phased out altogether. Additionally, the franchise’s parent company, Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment Ltd., has officially filed a trademark on the new logo, according to reports.
