On Wednesday, Doug Marrone opted out of his contract as the head coach of the Buffalo Bills, and the organization wasted no time in requesting an interview with Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase

Buffalo may be relatively cold during football season, but Doug Marrone’s seat was always hot in his two years as head coach of the Bills. After finishing 2014 with a 9-7 record, Marrone made the smart decision to exercise the “escape clause” in his contract, giving him a three-day window at the end of the season to terminate his current deal.
Owner Terry Pegula released a statement via Twitter on Wednesday addressing Marrone’s decision:
"“Doug Marrone informed me late today that he has decided to exercise the option clause in his contract and relinquish his responsibilities as our head coach. We are disappointed that coach Marrone will no longer be an important part of our organization. We thank him for all of his hard work and leadership during his tenure and wish him and his family the best with the next chapter in their lives.”"
In his two years, Marrone led the Bills to a 15-17 record, and the team’s improved defense and emergence of Sammy Watkins this season led fans to believe the team was headed in the right direction. But reports surfaced in September that Marrone did not get along with the front office, and enough seemed to be enough for the embattled head coach after the season.
Terry Pegula and his front office wasted no time searching for a new head coach, and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that they’ve already contacted the Denver Broncos requesting an interview with offensive coordinator Adam Gase:
The #Bills are on the board in their head-coaching search, requesting permission to speak with #Broncos OC Adam Gase, source said.

Gase has helped Peyton Manning turn the Denver Broncos into an offensive powerhouse, and many view him as one of the brightest offensive minds in football. With a murky quarterback situation and questions regarding the future of E.J. Manuel, the Bills need a coach who can help Manuel develop as a competent passer.
Manuel is the presumed starter heading into the 2015 season and will need to improve his 58% completion percentage if the team wants to contend for a playoff spot. The Bills hope a candidate like Gase can do just that, and in Denver, he did.
In two seasons calling plays for the Broncos, Adam Gase’s offenses scored 604 points in 2013 and 486 points in 2014. In those two seasons, Peyton Manning threw for 94 touchdowns amidst questions of a weak arm and diminishing abilities.
Gase may be the first candidate the Bills interview, but his seat is hot for all the right reasons.
