Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle Haloti Ngata apologizes for takingAadderall

This Saturday the Baltimore Ravens will travel to Pittsburgh to take on their longtime rivals the Steelers in the wildcard round. They will be getting a much-needed piece of the defense back as defensive tackle Haloti Ngata returns from suspension.

More from Baltimore Ravens

Ngata, 30, was suspended for testing positive for Adderall and violating the leagues PED policy. He was subsequently suspended for the final four games of the season. Ngata used Adderall because he needed an extra push after many late nights with his three children.

“I did make a mistake,” Ngata said to Jeff Zrebiec of The Baltimore Sun. “I’m glad the team was able to get us in the playoffs, and hopefully I can help them with this playoff run. I’m just excited and thankful the team was able to get us into the playoffs so I can play again.”

With Ngata out, rookie Timmy Jernigan filled in nicely for the Ravens and perhaps could give them something to think about in the offseason with Ngata’s larger contract and cap number while Jernigan on a much more affordable deal.

For now though, Ngata is back and the guy to lead their fantastic rush defense.

The Ravens were ranked fourth in rushing yards allowed per game in the league this year and a great deal of that is thanks to Ngata.  Jernigan injured his foot against the Cleveland Browns last Sunday, so Ngata will have to be ready to jump right back into the fire. If Le’veon Bell can give it a go this Saturday for Pittsburgh, Ngata will be much-needed up front to anchor the Baltimore defensive line.

Ngata is remorseful and sorry for what transpired and is ready to get back out there.

“It’s time to turn everything up — it’s the playoffs,” Ngata said, “It’s an exciting time, and hopefully we can have a great week of practice and do well down there.”

Ngata’s suspension cost him $2 million in game checks.
