You have to love high school sports. Both sides gather and prepare for the game, hoping to do their school proud. Beaming parents and teachers gather in the bleachers, ready to cheer on their school and enjoy the game.

And then the rims falls off. Wait, what?
What exactly happens next in this scenario? That was the case for a girl’s high school basketball game in Pennsylvania this week. A seemingly harmless free throw floated up towards the rim, looked like it might go in for a moment, and then it thudded down on the rim…at which point the rim itself fell to the floor.
What an odd and strange turn of events at the beginning of a basketball game. Perhaps the most amazing part of this story is that the game was delayed only 45 minutes. Somebody in the building knew what was up and how to remedy that situation so that the game could continue.

It makes you wonder if, for all the games played in that gymnasium, and all of the bricks heaved up at the basket by various opponents, the rim just couldn’t take it anymore and finally gave out.
That seems the only explanation for it to fall so emphatically on such a floating, seemingly harmless free throw.
