Report: Atlanta Falcons piping in crowd noise past two seasons
By Jack Crosby
The Atlanta Falcons’ crowd hasn’t really been as loud as they’d have you believe, apparently
All things considered, the Georgia Dome is considered one of the toughest places to play in the NFL, pretty much because the Atlanta Falcons crowd is so raucous inside that large building that happens to have a roof enclosing it.
Or, are they that loud?
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Falcons could end up finding themselves in a bit of hot water with the league due to the fact that they may have been piping in the noise from the crowd for at least the past two seasons.
This isn’t to say that playing the Falcons inside the Georgia Dome isn’t still tough, but they’ve been doing their best to make it that much tougher, which is a no-no.
As far as a potential punishment for the Falcons, should this be found out to have happened, there is a chance that the team could lose a draft pick for the transgression. Also, the league could levy a fine against them.
The most recent case of piped-in crowd noise being a potential issue was just this past season where the Indianapolis Colts were accused of making Lucas Oil Stadium a little louder than it really appears to be. However, nothing from those accusations ever came to fruition.
But, it appears that the Falcons may have been caught red-handed.
