More from College Football

The day has become a national holiday in recent years with live announcements of the top uncommitted recruits shown on ESPNU and so much attention devoted to daily recruiting news.

National Signing Day puts a period at the end of the season, 23 days after Ohio State defeated Oregon for the national title, but also marks the beginning of a new chapter with the ushering in of the new era. Future Heisman winners, national champions and No. 1 NFL Draft picks are on the way.

Hopes and dreams are pinned on recruits on an annual basis and highly ranked classes are met with championship expectations as Urban Meyer, Jimbo Fisher and Nick Saban can all attest. These three are the head coaches of the last three national champions, but this day is not just for the college football elite.

This day is also for teams like Tennessee, Penn State and Texas to rejoin the ranks of the elite and for a team like Michigan where new head coach Jim Harbaugh had to play catch up after he was hired five weeks before signing day.
