The greatest player in the Minnesota Timberwolves franchise is Kevin Garnett. Is he going to comeback to play for the team that drafted him fifth overall in the 1995 NBA Draft?

The Brooklyn Nets are a team that has an unofficial fire sale label attached to their organization and because of it the Minnesota Timberwolves are attempting to bring back their beloved franchise legend, Kevin Garnett.

In a recent turn of events the Timberwolves have started making a late push to attempt to bring back Garnett to the Twin Cities. To acquire the most iconic member of their history’s franchise the Timberwolves are willing to send Thaddeus Young to the Brooklyn Nets.

More from Minnesota Timberwolves

Young was recently acquired at the beginning of the season from the Philadelphia 76ers in a move that sent Andrew Wiggins, and Anthony Bennett to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Kevin Love. This season Young is averaging 14.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.8 steals per game during his only season playing for the Timberwolves

Because Garnett has a no-trade clause in his contract, the deal would have to have approval from Garnett if it were to happen. Even though Garnett has wished that he isn’t interested in joining another team during the middle of a season because he doesn’t want to displace his family, the Timberwolves are putting their hopes in nostalgia.

Garnett was selected out of high school by the franchise back in 1995, and the person that coached him back then, Flip Saunders, is the current coach of the Timberwolves today.

For the Timberwolves this deal could become one that is going to get remembered for a long time. The fan base would love to see Garnett make a return on their team.

With an 11-42 record the Timberwolves have one of the worst records in the league and they are in no position to make the playoffs. In fact the Timberwolves probably won’t have success after the All-Star break. So bringing Garnett back isn’t a loss to their team, it’s a still an addition.

Gloss over the fact that Garnett is near 40-years-old, he’s still putting up decent numbers of 6.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.0 steal per game while only playing 20.3 minutes a night. In that small amount of playing time Garnett still nearly averages a double double.

More importantly, the reason why this deal should get made is because of Andrew Wiggins. Garnett would be the perfect type of example for the 19-year-old rookie from Toronto, Canada. Garnett would serve as a mentor, and working with him on the daily would be a sure fire way to get Wiggins to become a better player.

Want more intensity from Wiggins? Then just wait until he starts hanging around Garnett.

However if the Wolves make the trade for Garnett, they need more back from the Nets than just him. To trade someone like Young who’s extremely productive and ten years younger isn’t a wise move for their franchise.

Stay tuned for this 11th-hour development.
