The Indianapolis Colts are emerging as the front-runners to sign both Ndamukong Suh and Greg Hardy in free agency.

Ndamukong Suh and Greg Hardy are two of the top free agents on the market this offseason, and the Indianapolis Colts are reportedly emerging as the front-runners to sign both of them. Jason Cole of Bleacher Report is making the report, and adding both of them would immediately make Indianapolis one of the Super Bowl favorites.

Andrew Luck and the Colts’ offense was among the best in the NFL, although they desperately need to upgrade their running back position. They were the number one passing offense in the league, and the offense doesn’t need too much work in the offseason. If the Colts can get a better running back, they will be just fine offensively.

That being said, they need some major help on the defensive side of the football. They ranked just 12th against the pass and 18th against the run.

Adding Suh would immediately help plug the middle of the defense and improve the run defense in a big way. He was a big part of the Detroit defensive line that was the best run-stopping defense in the entire NFL. Suh finished the year with 53 tackles and 8.5 sacks throughout the course of the season.

At 6’4″ and 305 pounds, the addition of Suh would give them exactly what they need to take the next step towards a Super Bowl. LeGarrette Blount ran all over the Colts’ defense in the AFC Championship game last season, and adding Suh would be the type of move to help fix that issue.

Hardy, on the other hand, would improve the pass rushing issue that the Colts had last season. During the 2014 season, he only played in one total regular season game. Despite the lack of playing time last year, he has a track record to prove that he is one of the elite pass rushers in the game.

During the 2014 season, Hardy ended up recording 59 tackles, 15.0 sacks, and a forced fumble. He is just 26 years old which gives him plenty of top-notch football left in his career. If the Colts could get Hardy, he would immediately improve their pass rush and the defense would take a major step forward.

Either one of these two players would be a huge boost for the Colts’ defense. Being able to sign both of them would take them to a completely new level and quite possibly propel them to being one of the best defenses in the NFL.
