March Madness 2015: Northern Iowa wins Missouri Valley Conference Tournament
By Jack Crosby
Northern Iowa will be going into the NCAA Tournament as the champions of the 2015 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament
The Missouri Valley Conference has been known to produce some fantastic basketball teams over the course of the past few years, which makes the conference tournament all the more exciting to watch. Well on Sunday, the 2015 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament came to a close with Northern Iowa taking the crown.
Coming into this tournament it was believed that either Northern Iowa or Wichita State would end up walking away with the title, and when the Shockers were shockingly bounced from the field, all eyes turned to Northern Iowa.
However, eyes also turned to the team that Northern Iowa had to beat on Sunday, Illinois State, who really did all they could to try and steal a bid to the NCAA Tournament. With a 21-11 record, they came in and were looking to commit the bid theft and they nearly succeeded. However, they came up just short on Sunday, but have nothing to be ashamed about their efforts this week.
Now Northern Iowa is rolling into the NCAA Tournament with some serious momentum on their side, which is never a bad thing. Currently ranked No. 11 in the country, Northern Iowa should get a nice seeding in their region next Sunday when the Tournament field is announced. What they do with that from there is up to them.
But for the next week, they can bask in the fact that they are the 2015 Missouri Valley Conference Champions.
