After reconsidering his deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, Frank Gore appears “intent” on signing with the Indianapolis Colts.

Frank Gore has caused quite a bit of drama today after getting cold feet about his deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. It appeared that it was a done deal that he would head to the Eagles to replace LeSean McCoy, but that may not end up being the case. He has reconsidered the deal, and is reportedly “intent” on signing with the Indianapolis Colts according to Mike Garafolo.

If that is indeed the case, it would be a huge pickup for the Colts. They have been needing an upgrade at the running back position, and this would be the perfect fix for them. Gore is exactly the type of running back that would fit in Indianapolis, and he could help change the Colts’ offense and make them nearly unstoppable.

Andrew Luck led the Colts to the number one passing offense in the NFL, but he simply didn’t have enough support from the ground.

At 31 years old, Gore still has a few good seasons of football left in him. The Colts are looking at a two or three-year window where they will be legitimate Super Bowl contenders, and they will have a much better chance with Gore on board. He is a huge upgrade over either Trent Richardson or Dan “Boom” Herron.

Ryan Grigson has been known to be very aggressive, and that is exactly what this situation proves once again. It appeared that Gore was already off the market, but the Colts’ pitch to him stuck in his head and has intrigued him to this point. There is still a chance that he ends up with the Eagles, but the Colts seem to be gaining steam.

There is no question that the Colts are a better fit for Gore, as they don’t run the intense up-tempo style of offense that Chip Kelly runs in Philadelphia. Pep Hamilton will use him in his traditional setting, and he will be extremely dangerous with Luck taking a lot of the pressure off of him.

Last season with the 49ers, Gore ended up rushing for 1,106 yards and four touchdowns on 255 carries. He has had much bigger roles in San Francisco in years past, but he was still able to put up solid numbers in a nightmare season.

All of that being said, it appears that the Colts are the favorites to sign Gore when everything is said and done. He has reconsidered this deal so much that it is clear he doesn’t think Philadelphia is the right place for him. Indianapolis would immediately become even more serious Super Bowl contenders, and their one major offensive need would be fixed.
