The former star receiver has bounced around the league and has experienced some locker room discord in the past.

The Buffalo Bills looked to add some more speed and illusiveness in space when they traded for Eagles halfback LeSean McCoy. Now it looks as though they may be close to adding another illusive player, albeit one with somewhat shaky production.

More from Buffalo Bills

From ESPN’s Josina Anderson:

"A source to me on how Percy Harvin’s visit with the #Bills: “His visit has been great. I know that he’s very comfortable with us. I wouldn’t be a surprise if he takes another visit and does his due diligence.I think there’s a sentiment that there are some in Percy’s camp that want him to play with a more experienced quarterback, but I believe we have some really good pieces here.”"

Now, this is a source from within the Buffalo Bills organization, so perhaps the overwhelming enthusiasm should be taken with a grain of salt. But Harvin would possibly fit in on the Bills both as a special teams returner and as a dangerous receiver from the slot.

Last season, Harvin split time between the Seattle Seahawks and the New York Jets, recording 51 receptions for 483 yards and a touchdown. He also performed kick return duties for both teams.

Harvin was shipped across the coast from Seattle to New Jersey, and the trade was inspired in part by locker room discord with his Seattle teammates. The Seahawks still owe Harvin over $7 million this season.

With the Seahawks using Harvin in unconventional ways, it is not surprising that Anderson also reported that Harvin wants to step into a more basic role.

"A source to me on what’s important to Harvin after speaking with him. “A lot of people have lied to him and told Percy [Harvin] that when he plays on their team he will be a traditional wide receiver, but if you look over the course of his career that certainly hasn’t always been the case.My understanding is that Percy wants to play the position full-time or get closer to that. He doesn’t want to be the gadget guy all the time. He’s grown tired of that. He wants to have a defined wide receiver role.”"

The NFL’s Percy Harvin fetish doesn’t seem odd when you consider the offensive tools that he has at his disposal. But with the exception of a stretch in 2011 and a high profile kickoff return touchdown in Super Bowl XLVIII, Harvin has been a non-impact player who has alienated teammates wherever he goes.

For Percy Harvin to be successful, the Bills may need to do more than play him on the outside.
