The Blue Demons had the Fighting Irish on the brink of defeat with a six-point lead with less than three minutes remaining in the game, but they didn’t hit their free throws and Notre Dame star guard Jewell Loyd took over the game.

Loyd rallied her teammates to tie the game in regulation and force overtime where they escaped with a 94-93 win and she finished with a career-high 41 points, doubling her season average of 20.4 points per game.

Notre Dame has won seven of the last 12 games in the rivalry to take a 21-19 lead in the series and the Irish get second-leading scorer Brianna Turner in this game after she missed the first meeting with a dislocated shoulder. However, Depaul guard Megan Podkowa thinks her team is better than the one that nearly upset Notre Dame in December.

“I think our chemistry has gotten a lot better since that first game, and I think we understand the offense a lot more,” she said, via ESPN.com.
