Even though the debate rages on regarding the State of Indiana’s controversial Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), USC Athletic Director Pat Haden isn’t waiting for the smoke to clear.

Haden tweeted Tuesday morning that he will not attend the College Football Playoff Committee meeting in Indianaplois due to last week’s signing of the RFRA, a law many believe is a state-sanctioned way to discriminate against members of the LBGT community. Haden is a member of the committee.

The meeting is scheduled to take place this week along with the Final Four of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Haden’s son, Ryan, is gay.  Here’s his tweet of support:

College Football Playoff Selection Committee executive director Bill Hancock told the Associated Press that he understood Haden’s decision not to attend the meeting.

“I certainly understand and respect Pat’s position,” Hancock said. “Everyone has the right to express their personal opinions and Pat, to his credit, has exercised his. As a father and also as a human being, I respect him for that.”

Hancock went on to say that the RFRA, which is on the books in 19 other states, needs to be amended.

“I think they need to fix this. But my focus is on sports. Other people more knowledgeable than I am are in a better position to address this matter. Our group’s focus is on sports.”

Let’s see what Haden has up his sleeve when his Men of Troy head to South Bend for their annual rivalrly game vs. Notre Dame on Oct. 17.
