Indiana Hoosier men’s basketball coach Tom Crean was booed in Indianapolis at the NCAA Final Four Saturday.

Indiana is the host of the Final Four and the National Championship this year — but that’s about as close as any basketball team that plays there will get to the title game. It’s excusable that some of the smaller schools aren’t in the discussion, but there is a lot of hate being aimed at Indiana Hoosier head coach Tom Crean.

Crean was on the hot seat all season long, and his time with the Hoosiers has been largely defined by empty promises and loud failure.

Something else that was loud were the boos reigning down when Crean dared to show his face at Lucas Oil Stadium at Saturday’s Final Four games.

Saturday, Crean’s photo was shown on the giant Lucas Oil Stadium video board, and here was the result:

It wasn’t a particularly friendly welcome for the head coach of the state’s most prominent basketball coach.

Crean, 49, just completed his sixth season in Bloomington, where he has compiled a 121-111 record (.522 winning percentage). He makes a gaudy $3.16 million per season as the Hoosiers’ coach.

But Indiana fans have grown tired of his act–namely fielding teams which are inconsistent.

The Hoosiers finished 20-13 through Big Ten Tournament play and barely made the NCAA Tournament this season. Once there, they bowed out as a 10-seed against Wichita State.

Crean may have preferred to stay home, or rather leave home–Indianapolis is just 50 miles up highway 37 from the state capital.

But all NCAA coaches are more or less required to show up for the Final Four as it coincides with the NABC (National Association of Basketball Coaches) convention.
