Fantasy Baseball: Cardinals at Cubs Rained Out
By Mike Marteny
The 2015 baseball season is not yet 48 hours old, and we had the first ever rain delay at Marlins Park last night (18 minutes while they closed the roof). Now we have our first rainout. The Cardinals vs. Cubs game at Wrigley Field has been canceled due to the possibility of freezing rain and sub-zero wind chills in the Chicago area tonight.

Us fantasy players love that the Cubs were so kind to announce this early in the day. That way we aren’t left with big fat zeroes in one day leagues. Those of us in leagues that allow daily transactions can go hit waivers and try to find suitable replacements for Anthony Rizzo, Lance Lynn, Jake Arrieta, Matt Holliday, and Jason Heyward to name a few.
No makeup date has been announced yet, but considering that the teams play two more series in the Windy City this year, it shouldn’t be too tough to find a day suitable for a doubleheader in the spirit of Ernie Banks.
Arrieta and Lynn will likely take the hill tomorrow for the finale of the two game series against the Cardinals at 2:20pm eastern. This will push everyone’s projected start back an extra day. This early in the season, it won’t affect either team’s rotation much.
The Cardinals and Cubs will each get an extra day off. They missed out on the Opening Day festivities yesterday since their Sunday night game at Wrigley officially kicked off the 2015 season. The Cubs failed to score a run off of St. Louis ace Adam Wainwright on Sunday night. I’m sure they were chomping at the bit to get another chance.
Then again, they are likely thanking the management for calling this one. Who wants to play baseball in that kind of weather?
