Sam Dekker apologizes to Wisconsin fans after losing National Championship
By Josh Hill
The Duke Blue Devils are once again champions of college basketball, but the Wisconsin Badgers aren’t soon forgetting the fans who helped carry their spirits to the title game.
It was a good run for the Wisconsin Badgers — but that’s what we typically say of all teams who fall short of winning a title. However, there was something special about the Wisconsin team that nearly won a title this season and it all comes down to how the connection with the players and fans lifted everyone’s spirits and interest throughout the tournament run.
With the season ending in bitter and crushing defeat, the Badgers are leaning on their fans for support and are going as far as to apologize for what happened. Sam Dekker, who was a star of the tournament, was one of the leaders of the Badgers who stepped up to apologize to fans.
It was heartfelt and it was heartbreaking, but Sam Dekker apologizing to Wisconsin Badgers fans on Twitter is part of what makes March Madness what it is.
Dekker was a stud for the Badgers in the tournament and the question now is whether he will return to the Badgers for his senior season or leave for the NBA with teammate Frank Kaminsky. The Badgers have something special going for themselves in the Big 10 as they’ve moved closer and closer to a title in consecutive years.
If Dekker leaves for the NBA, he is looking at being a mid to late first-round pick but he’s going to be selected before the first round ends.
But if he returns, he could strive to avenge the back-to-back seasons that ended without a title and in the process raise his draft stock like we saw players like Willie Cauley-Stein do from last year to the present.
