Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo promised Jahlil Okafor a Dallas Super Bowl win if the latter’s Duke Blue Devils claimed the NCAA men’s tournament championship in 2015.

Be careful with what you agree to, folks. That is a lesson that will likely be learned the hard way by Tony Romo. The Dallas Cowboys quarterback and 12 year NFL veteran is, apparently, also a pretty big Duke fan. In fact, the four time pro-bowler made an alleged promise with projected top 2 pick and star center Jahlil Okafor that if his Blue Devils squad delivered an NCAA title, that he would produce a Super Bowl championship of his own.

That nice bit of cringe inducing history has brought us here, to the precipice of an awkward deal. In a somewhat predictable scenario, Romo finds himself pressured to deliver, which is almost too perfect a metaphor for his playoff career thus far.

In hindsight, can anyone remember a year in recent memory when Duke didn’t at any single point in any given season appear to be a title contender? A Blue Devils men’s basketball championship is about the furthest thing from surprising in college athletics.

Now what? That question is not so much directed at us, the spectators. It is not meant to be answered by team owner Jerry Jones, head coach Jason Garrett, or anyone of his Cowboys players either. No, this is a conundrum solely on the hands of Romo.

And while he is just one of 11 men on Dallas’s offense, nearly all failure in achieving the goal of a ring will rest squarely on his shoulders. It is, after all, a position he has become accustomed to over the years.

The only difference now is that he added a little bit of extra incentive.

Will Tony Romo be able to deliver Big D its first title since 1995? He won his first playoff game since 2009 last season, while showing excellent strides in late game decision making.

Then again, he statistically happened to have the game’s best offensive line, and a running back by the name of DeMarco Murray, whom just so happens to be wearing Eagles green these days.

2015 will indeed bring about many interesting scenarios. How will Adrian Peterson look, and whom will he be playing for? Does Peyton Manning have anything left in the tank? Can the Patriots repeat? Who will have a better rookie season, Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota?

You can go ahead and throw this end of a regretful promise on top of that pile.
