The college football spring game season went into full swing on Saturday, with a number of games taking place featuring some of the top programs in the country. Now of course, some of these games draw more people than the average NFL regular season game does at times. Well, the early leader for top attendance is definitely the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Under the direction of new head coach Mike Riley, Nebraska took to the field inside Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon in front of a crowd of over 76,000 fans.
Is this a surprising statistic on this spring Saturday? Well, not really.
Aside from Nebraska having one of the more loyal fan bases in the entire country, everyone is eager to see whether or not Riley, who came over from Oregon State following the departure of Bo Pelini, can get this program back on track to getting towards the top of the Big Ten Conference. While the Nebraska program hasn’t been horrid the past few years by any means, this fan base demands championship success. And quite frankly, it’s been a little too long for their comfort since the Huskers raised a title trophy.
After looking at this number from their spring game attendance on Saturday, you can certainly tell that the expectations in Lincoln are the highest that they have been in quite some time.
