However, Harvick trying to catch up to Jimmie Johnson rubbed against a wall with barely any laps remaining and that was enough of a cushion to give the No. 48 his second victory of the season to tie Harvick in victories.
It was a wild night in Texas that featured fast cars, wrecks, a massive oil leak in the pits and wildlife entering the track.
There was no doubt it was the most entertaining race of the season to date. Harvick already has a spot in the chase and has nothing to lose, but that didn’t stop the No. 4 from racing his hardest for the victory, including almost wrecking Joey Logano.
Logano after the race however, called it hard racing and understood why Kevin did what he did. Still, his hard racing caught up to him with his encounter with the wall at the end and Jimmie Johnson and Hendrick Motorsports picked up a victory.
Teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished third and had another great race but once again did not have quite enough to grab his first win of the year and a spot in the chase.
For Johnson, it’s his fifth win at Texas, a track he continues to dominate. With the seventh race of the season in the books, here is the complete finishing order for Saturday night’s shootout in ” The Lone Star State.”

It’s the 11th time that Jimmie Johnson and Kevin Harvick have finished No. 1 and 2 at the end of a race. Johnson has come out on top nine of those times.
Next week, their showdown continues as NASCAR heads to Bristol, for the Food City 500 where everyone will be bunched up together on the short track instead of the wide open track that they had tonight.
