Fantasy Baseball: Detroit Tigers’ Offense Unstoppable

As the first week of the 2015 MLB season is in the books, we take a look at who surprised in the first week and could be a good option for your team off the waiver wire. It is still early, so I do not want to put all my eggs in one basket just yet. It is a long season, but these guys have shown a lot of promise in the first few games of the year.

Anyone on the Detroit Tigers: The Tigers have 47 runs in their first six games, which is first in MLB. That is an average of almost eight runs per game for all you math fanatics out there. They are first in nearly every offensive category right now which should not come as too much of a surprise. Obviously guys like Miguel Cabrera and Yoenis Cespedes are going to be commodities, but even lesser known players such as Jose Iglesias and Anthony Gose are contributing. Three of the top four most added players on ESPN are from the Tigers (Iglesias, Gose, and Alex Avila). The Tigers are one of the World Series favorites, so jump on that offense while you still can. On the defensive side of things, Shane Greene threw eight shutout innings in his first start of the year.

Kevin Kiermaier (TB OF, 18.8% of leagues): Kiermaier is currently batting .381 with two home runs, six runs, and seven extra base hits (second in the MLB). I for one am not too excited about what Tampa Bay is putting on the field in 2015, but Kiermaier has done well so far. He was quite average in 2014 (.263, 10 home runs, 35 RBIs), and his projections for 2015 looked quite similar. This could very well be an example of just a hot start, but in baseball, every player goes on streaks. Take advantage of Kiermaier’s.

Jeurys Familia (NYM RP, 14.1% of leagues): Bobby Parnell will most likely take over when he returns, but for now, Familia is the closer in the Big Apple. Especially with Jennry Mejia getting an 80 game suspension.

Trevor Bauer (Cle SP, 53.2% of leagues): Get Bauer if he is still available in your league. He has been up and down for a couple years now, but is now finally a starter in the big leagues. He began the Indians’ effort at a combined no-hitter in his first start in which he struck out 11 Astros. Yes, it is the Astros, but it still bodes well for the season.
