Fantasy Baseball: Who Can Help With Alex Rios Headed To The DL?
By Mike Marteny
With the news that Alex Rios has a broken left hand, this leaves a void in many lineups. Rios was off to a great start in Kansas City, hitting .321 with one home run, two steals, eight RBI, and four runs scored. While you may not find anyone on waivers who can match that production, here are a few people that can help you in the month that Rios will miss.

The standard league adds are available in 40-75% of ESPN leagues. The moderate league adds will be players owned in 10-39% of ESPN leagues. The deep league adds will be owned in less than 10% of leagues.
Standard leagues:
Anthony Gose, Tigers: Gose is still ceding at bats to Rajai Davis, but he is a terror when he is in there. Gose is 9/23 with a homer, a steal, five RBI, and six runs scored. He won’t play much against lefties for the foreseeable future, but if you can manage a platoon situation, he could be a great asset to your team.
Kevin Kiermaier, Rays: Kiermaier is hitting .333 with two homers, four RBI, and six runs scored. The Rays need all the offense they can get right now, so expect Kiermaier in there every day. At least until James Loney comes back.
Moderate leagues:
Nori Aoki, Giants: Aoki is hitting .412 with four runs scored, a steal, and an RBI. He is mostly just help in average and runs, but in moderate sized leagues, you aren’t going to find anyone readily available that can match Rios’s power without hurting you elsewhere.
Alejandro De Aza, Orioles: De Aza is hitting .333 with two homers, a steal, four RBI, and seven runs scored batting leadoff for the Orioles. He is proving that he can handle lefties as well, so he will be in there almost every day. The fact that the Orioles are willing to start him against C.C. Sabathia tonight speaks volumes about how much he has evolved as a hitter.
Deep leagues:
Paulo Orlando/Jarrod Dyson, Royals: This two-headed steals monster will fill in for Rios for the Royals. If you can’t snag both of them, Dyson will help out more because he will see most of the at-bats.
Dustin Ackley, Mariners: It seems as though Ackley has finally grown accustomed to hitting in the majors. He is hitting .353 with three homers and five runs scored. The problem? The Mariners are having problems getting on base, so he hasn’t driven in anyone but himself.
Jake Marisnick, Astros: Marisnick was a top prospect in the Marlins system before heading to Houston in the Jarred Cosart deal. He struggled last year, but so far this year, he has figured things out. Marisnick is hitting .333 with a homer, two steals, and five RBI. His issue is that he has only scored one run. That will happen when you hit at the bottom of the order.
Ender Inciarte, Diamondbacks: His hot start has kept him in the lineup. He was originally supposed to be in a platoon with David Peralta, but the struggles of A.J. Pollock have led to him getting in the lineup all over the place. Inciarte is hitting .393 with six RBI and six runs scored, so he can be useful in deep leagues so long as he finds his way into the lineup.
