Fantasy Baseball: Who Can Replace David Wright?
By Mike Marteny
Another day, another key fantasy cog hits the DL. Such is the way so far in 2015. Today, it was David Wright of the Mets that landed on the disabled list with a strained right hamstring. It is generally regarded as a mild strain, but that would still keep Wright out until early May. Third base is a pretty shallow position anyway, especially with Anthony Rendon still on the DL. Who can replace Wright on your fantasy team?

This is especially disappointing for fantasy owners since Wright was off to a good start. He was 11/33 with a homer, two steals, four RBI, and three runs scored. These are the players most likely to replicate his production.
The standard league adds are available in 40-75% of ESPN leagues. The moderate league adds will be players owned in 10-39% of ESPN leagues. The deep league adds will be owned in less than 10% of leagues
Standard leagues:
Mike Moustakas, Royals: “Moose” finally seems to have figured things out. He was on fire in the spring, and it has followed him north. Moustakas is hitting .360 with two homers, a steal, two RBI, and seven runs scored. He is still only owned in just over half of ESPN leagues. He can really help you out until he cools off.
Alex Rodriguez, Yankees: I know, I have a hard time owning him too just on principle, but fantasy sports has no room for personal feelings. ARod is hitting .240 with a homer, six RBI, and three runs scored. He won’t steal any bases, but he still has some power left.
Moderate leagues:
Brett Lawrie, Athletics: He was a key piece of the Josh Donaldson deal, and we all know that Lawrie can be really good if he can stay on the field. So far, so good. He is hitting .257 with a homer, a steal, two RBI, and four runs scored. Oh, and he is eligible at second base in most leagues. That makes him even more valuable for lineup flexibility.
Marcus Semien, Athletics: Semien also has 2B eligibility. He is off to a good start at .286 with a homer, seven RBI, and four runs scored. Both he and Lawrie are finding ways to stay in the Oakland lineup, so they both have value. Semien’s may be slightly higher right now.
Jake Lamb, Diamondbacks: The Diamondbacks just called up Yasmany Tomas, but he was playing strictly left field at AAA Reno, so Lamb would seem to be safe. He only plays against right handed pitchers, but he has bludgeoned them so far. Lamb is hitting .389 with a homer, a steal, seven RBI, and four runs scored in only 18 at bats. He is a great add if you are able to manage a platoon situation.

Deep leagues:
Cody Asche, Phillies: Most Phillies players are being ignored in fantasy because of the stagnant offense, but Asche is an exception right now. He is hitting .429 with a homer, two RBI and two runs scored. He started hot last year and fell off quickly, so be prepared to drop him if he cools off again.
Will Middlebrooks, Padres: Middlebrooks could put up some good numbers when this lineup gets going. His average is a little low at .235, but he has a homer a steal, four RBI, and three runs scored. His defense will keep him in the lineup, so he should at least be able to help in runs and RBI.
