Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones reminded everyone on Saturday why exactly his nickname is “12 Gauge”

We don’t know yet whether or not Cardale Jones will be the starting quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes when the regular season begins, but during the spring game on Saturday, we were all given a stern reminder as to why exactly his nickname is “12 Gauge.”

During the half of the annual Buckeyes spring game on Saturday in Columbus, which drew over 99,000 people, there was a pretty awesome moment as fans were treated to a quarterback competition featuring Jones, J.T. Barrett and 2006 Ohio State Heisman winner Troy Smith.

Well, when it came time for the distance part of the competition, Jones left no doubt in anyone’s mind that he was the superior one, launching a ball 74 yards down the field.

Heck, even if his jersey number wasn’t 12, you can still call the kid 12 Gauge off the fact alone that he can do something like this. That’s purely insane.

As impressive as that was, though, it still won’t be all he needs to earn that starting spot once September rolls around, as he’ll have some stiff competition from both Barrett and the returning Braxton Miller.

But, he at least always has the bragging rights of being the one with the biggest cannon. Oh yeah, and you know, those rings he acquired last year.
