Sunday afternoon the scheduled NASCAR race for this week is the Food City 500, with Matt Kenseth taking the pole to get things started. However, there have been questions as to whether or not the start to this race will even take place.
Several weather reports point towards the notion that inclement conditions in Bristol may not let things go one as planned at the Bristol Motor Speedway.
So, with that said, will the Food City 500 take place on Sunday in Bristol?
Well, earlier Sunday morning, Bristol general manager Jerry Caldwell addressed the matter.
"“We’re moving forward with events as planned. Should the weather dictate changes to our schedule, fans can find the most up-to-date information at BristolMotorSpeedway.com, Bristol LIVE! radio, Twitter (@BMSUpdates), Facebook; or via our new app for Bristol Motor Speedway available for download on iTunes and Android phones.“We will make every effort to accomplish the full day of events on the same day as scheduled, and if needed, we’ll turn on the lights. Come on out and join us for a great day at the track.”"
While Caldwell and the staff remain committed to getting this race in, again, there is no telling what sort of issues the weather could end up bringing and safety is first for the drivers, always.
Just to be cautious, NASCAR has moved the green flag time from the scheduled 1:13 PM ET to 1:03 PM ET, and there will also be a competition caution that will take place on Lap 50 of this one.
As more weather updates become available for Sunday’s running of the Food City 500, we will keep you updated. Also as an added reference, you NASCAR has provided live updates of the weather in Bristol at this link here.
