Chicago Cubs fans developed a new beer-chugging tradition at Wrigley and other MLB teams should follow suit.

A new tradition has found its way to Wrigley Field. Sorry, Cubs fans, it’s not winning (yet) but it is just as fun.

Over the weekend, two separate fans at Wrigley caught foul balls in their beer cups – and proceeded to chug the beer with with baseball still in it. One fan, Krista Dotzenrod, caught a foul ball in her cup during Saturday’s game against the Padres. The people around her suggested that she down the whole thing.

“I was told they were amazing seats because you can catch a lot of foul balls. I was sitting there, and all of a sudden there is a ball in my cup,” Dotzenrod told the Chicago Sun-Times. “It fell straight in there. I didn’t know what to do. Everyone behind me told me to chug my beer. So I did.”

The very next day, at the final game of the Cubs/Padres series, another fan caught a foul ball in their beer. Lo and behold, he chugged it too.

Though binge-drinking at Wrigley is hardly a new phenomenon, Chicago has already declared this trend the next big thing.

Another Cubs fan tradition, throwing the opposing team’s home runs back onto the field, have been adopted by the fans of other MLB clubs. It seems this beer-chugging one is likely to follow, as we saw with a Giants fan over the weekend.

Ultimately, Cubs fans are proving that it is never too late to start a new tradition. Especially if your old traditions (losing) are not serving you too well.

If Cubs fans are doing this, other fans should too. Here are some ideas:

Every time the Royals hit a home run into the fountains at Kauffman Stadium, fans should climb in and fish it out.

If a home run hits the slide in left field at Miller Park, the Brewers should select one lucky fan to go down the slide head first.

When a home run sails out of AT&T Park and into the Bay, Giants fans should mimic the splash by choosing one member of their group to pour a beer over his or her head.

When a Braves pitcher strikes out a batter, fans should scream “Oh, K!” in honor of Atlanta-based rapper Lil Jon.

When a home run sails over the top of the green monster in Fenway, Red Sox fans should challenge their neighbor to a lobster roll-eating contest.

When the shortstop for the New York Yankees gets a hit, fans should start chanting “Derek Jeter! (clap clap clapclapclap) Derek Jeter!”

Fans, use these as a guideline to add your own flair or adapt to your team’s home park. At the very least, it’ll be something to get you through the nine long innings.
