California Golden Bears’ assistant coach and top recruiter Pierre Ingram was cited for soliciting a prostitute last week and has been placed on administrative leave.

The college football season is still long time away and the California Golden Bears‘ offseason just got a bit longer. Sonny Dykes’ assistant coach and top recruiter Pierre Ingram was arrested last week and cited for soliciting a prostitute that turned out to be a cop in a major prostitution ring.

This got me thinking of other times coaches have been in trouble with the law for embarrassing or shameful reasons.

Although this list isn’t very long, it does include what just happened at Cal with Pierre Ingram.

1. Pierre Ingram, Cal, soliciting a prostitute

Ingram has been Dykes’ top recruiter for years and it’s terrible that this had to happen right before the team’s spring game.

According to reports, Ingram was arrested after he agreed to meet up with who he thought was a prostitute at a hotel room, but was later confirmed to be a police officer. This is the kind of black eye that can steer away recruits because parents don’t want their kids playing for someone who was arrested trying to lure a prostitute.

While Ingram isn’t the first, nor will he be the last, guy to ever try and solicit a prostitute, the fact that he’s a public figure makes it that much more embarrassing.

2. Youth hockey coach arrested for tripping 13-year-old

Yes, it’s definitely as bad as it sounds.

This Canadian youth hockey coach was arrested after he tripped an opposing player in the handshake line following the game. It’s not often you see a grown man act more childish than the players he coaches, but this has to be a low point in his life. Just watch.

Just disgusting.

3. Gary Pinkel, Missouri, DWI

While a DWI isn’t the most embarrassing thing to happen to a coach, it’s still something that should never happen as these are the guys that preach good values to their players.

Pinkel was arrested in 2011 and a video was released of the arrest, and he was clearly intoxicated while driving his vehicle. The Missouri Tigers‘ head football coach claimed he was having dinner with his friends right before the arrest, which might be true, but that didn’t save him from a mug shot that likely will haunt him forever.

He was suspended one week without pay.

4. Jim Irsay, Colts Owner, DWI and controlled substance charge

While Irsay isn’t a coach, he’s still in the position of power where any wrong move will be publicly scrutinized and played back for the rest of his life. In fact, an owner making a legal mistake is almost more shameful than when a coach does so.

The owner hires the coach, hoping he will lead the way by example.

Irsay was arrested last year after a traffic stop in which police found subscription pills in his car and he failed many roadside sobriety tests. The Colts had quite the black eye after this one.

There you have it, folks, four of the more embarrassing and shameful coach/owner arrests in recent sports history.
