Could Alabama solve their quarterback quandary by going the transfer route with Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller?

Braxton Miller could be the most sought after free agent in college football history this summer if he decided to transfer out of Ohio State and explore his options elsewhere, including at Alabama where he reportedly could finish his college career.

On Tuesday’s edition of the Paul Finebaum Show, the national radio host said he talked to a source at Alabama who opened the door to Miller transferring to the Crimson Tide and said there’s a chance he transfers to play in the SEC for Nick Saban for Alabama.

Is this a Lloyd Christmas “one-in-a-million” chance from Dumb and Dumber or is this a legit possible destination for Miller?

There’s “a chance” I could come to Alabama too and there’s a chance I could marry Kate Upton, but how realistic is this and should Alabama fans get their hopes up?

With Cardale Jones and J.T. Barrett proving they can run the Ohio State offense and not miss a beat without Miller and win the national championship without the two-time Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, Miller may find himself buried on the depth chart if Urban Meyer elects to go with either Jones or Barrett or a combination of the two.

Would Miller want to stay at Ohio State and be a third-string quarterback who may have to switch positions to running back or wide receiver before heading to the NFL? If he has any hopes of playing quarterback in the NFL, staying at Ohio State and switching positions isn’t going to help his case.

However, if he goes to Alabama and can quickly master Lane Kiffin’s offense and lead Saban’s team to another SEC title and a second straight berth in the College Football Playoff while showing the same dual-threat ability he did at Ohio State, he could boost his draft stock and be a mid-round quarterback option in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Can you just imagine if Miller transferred to Alabama and met Ohio State in the playoff? That would be one of the greatest storylines in recent college football history.

But no, Alabama fans shouldn’t get their hopes up and start printing up No. 5 Alabama jerseys. Miller could have transferred to Alabama, Oregon, Florida State or LSU already and been present for spring practices so he can start learning the new offense and getting acclimated with his new teammates.

Miller has given no inclination that he’s itching to leave Columbus and find a new home and his teammates all believe he’s returning for a fifth season at Ohio State despite his job status undefined until mid-August in all likelihood.

Alabama went the transfer route last offseason when they welcomed Florida State transfer Jake Coker who was the presumptive starter last year before he was beat by Blake Sims for the job.

Coker is the front-runner to start for Alabama this year after concluding spring practice with the team’s annual A-Day spring game on Saturday, but adding Miller to the equation would dramatically shake things up, even if it’s a one-in-a-million chance.
