The hitter picks are a lot harder to do. There is a reason that no one has “beat the streak” (referring to Joe DiMaggio‘s 56 game hitting streak) on MLB.com. Even having your pick of everyone in the big leagues, picking the one who gets a hit for 57 games is nearly impossible. At least on FanDuel you get a pick of eight hitters.

There are certain trends and players’ history against a certain pitcher that can help you in your decision. But it still amounts to one slightly educated crapshoot. Here are the results of my crapshoot: the FanDuel hitter picks for April 22.
Cheap Picks: (prices $3000 and under)
C: A.J. Pierzynski (2,800): Pierzynski has enjoyed a rebirth in Atlanta. He has had positive points in FanDuel in every one of his games played so far this year. He has never faced Dillon Gee before, but I wouldn’t worry about it. Gee boasts a lofty 7.59 ERA in two starts this year. A.J. shouldn’t have a problem finding his footing.
Honorable mention: Martin Maldonado ($2,200): Maldonado homered in his first start for Lucroy yesterday. I wouldn’t expect similar success against Johnny Cueto, but he still could get on base.
1B: Kennys Vargas ($2,400): True, Vargas has not had a very strong year, but he has power and Jeremy Guthrie does not. The Royals-Twins game could be a high scoring affair, and Vargas is a good bet to do his part to make it that way.
Honorable mention: Kendrys Morales ($2,900): Mike Pelfrey might be the worst starter in the majors. Just put the ball on a tee in KC tonight.
2B: Brian Dozier ($3,000): Dozier is as good a threat as any to go deep. He has not had a negative point day since the second game of the season, so he is constantly getting you a little something.
Honorable mention: Aaron Hill ($2,300): Hill and his low salary will start at third base tonight against the Rangers after Yasmany Tomas made a bad error starting at third last night. Hill could get some more at bats while Jake Lamb is out, so watch this situation.
SS: Zack Cozart ($2,500): Cozart had a monster game against the Brewers last night. The feat could be duplicated, as bad as the Brewers have been on both sides of the ball.
Honorable mention: Wilmer Flores ($2,700): He won’t be a gold glover any time soon, but Flores has has 22 fantasy points in his last five games, and he is going agianst the struggling Eric Stults. He could be in for another nice game.
3B: Eric Campbell ($2,800): Campbell has had positive points in every game this year, and has only scored below one point once. He is proving to be a capable fill-in for David Wright, and a FanDuel favorite for his low price and solid production.
Honorable mention: Mike Moustakas ($3,000): Moose has clobbered the Twins this year, even the so called “good” pitchers. Pelfrey is not one of those.
OF: Juan Lagares ($2,600): Lagares has eight straight games of more than one FanDuel point after a miserable start to the year. He is a great source of low priced points.
Chris Carter ($2,400): Yes, I realize that Carter is hiiting .089 with 21 strikeouts in 45 at bats. I also realize that J.A. Happ is a soft-tossing lefty with marginal stuff. Carter drove in his first run of the season last night. He is due for more tonight.
Jake Marisnick ($2,700): See also: Carter, Chris.
Honorable mention: Paulo Orlando ($3,000): If he hit in the top third of the order, I would be a lot more comfortable with him in there. Of course, against Pelfrey it shouldn’t matter much.

High Dollar Options ($3,100 and over):
C: Caleb Joseph($3,100): He has brought his bat filling in for Matt Wieters. Joseph has not had a game in the negatives yet. That likely won’t happen tonight against Aaron Sanchez and the Blue Jays either.
Honorable mention: Stephen Vogt ($3,600): He has been on a tear this year, but I don’t particularly like his matchup with Jered Weaver.
1B: Joey Votto ($4,600): Votto has been on a tear in the early going, and has pounded the Brewers for 17.75 points in the first two games of the series.
Honorable mention: Miguel Cabrera ($4,800): Miggy hit the Yankees well, and Adam Warren is going to find that out first hand tonight.
2B: Jose Altuve ($4,000): Too bad FanDuel limits you to four players per team. The Astros could have a field day against the Mariners.
Honorable mention: Howie Kendrick ($3,800): Kendrick has been as hot as anyone in the early going, but I just can’t recommend him against Madison Bumgarner, no matter how poorly Bum has looked in the early going.
SS: Starlin Castro ($3,600): Castro blew up on the Pirates yesterday. With Vance Worley on the hill again tonight, there is a chance that he can do it again.
Honorable mention: Ian Desmond ($4,000): Desmond has more than two fantasy points is all but one of his last seven games. He is on a roll right now.
3B: Kris Bryant ($3,800): Bryant has averaged 4.5 fantasy points per game since his call up. He is as good as advertised, and has a great chance at his first major league homer off of Vance Worley tonight.
Honorable mention: Kyle Seager ($3,800): He has a great matchup, but it is in a pitcher’s park. That brings him down a notch.
OF: Nelson Cruz ($5,400): Cruz had his first negative point game of the season last night. He could bounce back in a big way against Happ and the Mariners.
Starling Marte ($4,200): Marte has 38 fantasy points over his last five games. There is no one hotter right now.
Wil Myers ($3,800): He is at the top of one of the most productive lineups in baseball. Oh, and he is playing in Coors Field against a pitcher that has given up 14 runs in his last two starts.
Honorable mention: Matt Kemp ($4,800): If you have the money for Kemp over Myers, then by all means, take him. He has more power. Any Padre looks to be a good play tonight.
