Dwayne Bowe’s eight-year run as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs came to a close this year. However, Bowe clearly hasn’t forgotten the city or Chiefs fans that supported him all those years.
The new Cleveland Browns wide receiver flew back to Kansas City this week in order to attend the funeral of Betty Johnson, an 86-year-old Chiefs fan that he had built a strong bond with.
Johnson, who was a season-ticket holder that sat at the 45-year-line, and Bowe often exchanged a kiss before home games.
From KCTV5 in Kansas City:
"“He flew in for my mother’s funeral to give her the last kiss. Her celebration was just what she wanted. I wished I could have seen her in heaven today. I know she was there in spirit. It was a special ending to very special person,” Susan Johnson said.Bowe got up at the memorial and said a few words about his biggest fan. He even sent her a wreath of white flowers.“You might have thought you were the Chiefs No. 1 fan, but in so many ways, we were yours. Thanks for making Arrowhead feel like home to me. I will continue to play my heart out for you. Kisses to you my special angel,” the current Cleveland Browns player wrote on the flowers."
What a remarkable gesture from Bowe. It really says a lot about the type of person Bowe is and the relationship that he formed with Johnson that he would do all that he did here.
The Chiefs drafted Bowe with the No. 23 overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. He posted 532 receptions, 7,155 receiving yards and 44 receiving touchdowns during his time with Kansas City. The team released him in March and he shortly thereafter signed with the Browns.
