After suffering a season-ending elbow injury, Los Angeles Dodgers’ starting pitcher, and his wife, tweeted out some pretty funny stuff despite the serious news.

Have you ever made light of a seemingly-serious situation in order to make yourself, and others, feel much better? Well, Twitter pro Brandon McCarthy seems to be tweeting out funny things all the time, but this time, it was something unexpected.

After winning his third game of the year, improving to 3-0, McCarthy’s ERA ballooned to 5.87 and it seemed as if something was wrong. He complained of issues in his elbow and went to get it x-rayed just to find out that he had a torn ligament and would be out for the season.

The 31-year-old MLB vet had pitched a decent career before starting slow this season. McCarthy’s career ERA hovers around 4.13 and he has 55 wins in his nine years in the majors. While he’s not a superstar by any stretch of the imagination, he’s a solid fourth or fifth starter who contributes to any team he’s on, nonetheless.

The serious news of the elbow injury struck McCarthy and his wife pretty hard as they were expecting their first season with the Los Angeles Dodgers would be a fresh start and wouldn’t turn quite this difficult.

McCarthy took to Twitter to voice his opinion on the subject in a perfect tweet.

Despite being just an average starter, McCarthy was given a four-year, $48 million contract this offseason by the Dodgers, likely being the reason for the nonchalant, comical tweet.

Sure, he’s getting paid a boatload by the Dodgers to not pitch anymore this season, but it takes a pretty gutsy guy to joke about such terrible news that might spell the downfall of his baseball playing days.

His wife also joked about the topic, while drinking wine to relieve the pain.

At least these two can poke fun at the topic all while thinking of a way to get back to playing next season in his second year with his new ball club.

Tough blow for McCarthy, but a stand-up guy for making us all laugh in the process.
