Fantasy Baseball: Jose Reyes To DL (again), Who Can Replace Him?
By Mike Marteny
The Blue Jays actually got 16 games out of Jose Reyes before he landed on the disabled list with a cracked rib. Reyes lasted just one at bat last year before his first DL stint. Hopefully you heeded our advice and locked up a good backup shortstop if you gambled on Reyes.

It sounds like Reyes’s stint on the DL will be a short one, but with an oft-injured player such as him, you never know. Who can fill his shoes if you didn’t roster an adequate backup? Here are some ideas.
Reyes was off to a decent start, hitting .266 with three steals, seven RBI, and six runs scored. Those numbers should be easy enough to find a short term replacement for.
The standard league replacements are available in 25-70% of ESPN leagues. The moderates are available in 71-90% of ESPN leagues. The deep league options are available in over 90% of ESPN leagues.
Standard Leagues:
Adeiny Hechavarria, Marlins: Hechavarria is off to a hot start to the season. He is hitting .342 with two homers and a steal, but what really sets him apart is his runs scored and RBI. Hechavarria is leading all shortstops with 15 runs scored and is second to only Hanley Ramirez in RBI with 16. If he is still available, he should be added in all leagues. At least until he cools off.
Zack Cozart, Reds: Were you burned by Cozart and his miserable year last year? Join the club. That is not a reason to leave him on waivers right now. Cozart is off to a great start in 2015 hitting .333 with four homers, ten RBI, a steal, and ten runs scored.

Moderate Leagues:
Odubel Herrera, Phillies: Yes, for the most part the Phillies are a fantasy wasteland, but Herrera has emerged as a good option. He is hitting .347 with four steals, four RBI, and eight runs scored. He will get you numbers very similar to Reyes if you are going to lose ground in steals. He is also eligible in the outfield, which makes him a little more valuable.
Wilmer Flores, Mets: Many in the organization were worried about his bat, not his defense. Well, his bat is fine. Flores is hitting .318 with three homers, eight RBI, and nine runs scored. He is a good option until Reyes comes back.
Deep Leagues:
Brandon Crawford, Giants: Crawford is usually more valuable in 10×10 leagues, but this year he should be making it on to standard league radars. He is hitting .320 with three homers, nine RBI, a steal, and eight runs scored. I have no idea why he is still available in 94% of ESPN leagues.
Brad Miller, Mariners: Miller is hitting .323 with a homer, seven RBI, three steals, and four runs scored. Now you see why the Mariners held on to him. He is producing numbers like Reyes was with a little more power, but he is still widely available.
