16 teams take the field in the evening version of the FanDuel tournaments. That gives us a couple of more options than in the early games. Who are the best ones? Let’s check the stats.

Here are my late FanDuel lineups for May 2:
Pitchers:
Best Bet:
Collin McHugh, Astros ($8,400): There are a lot of big names out there tonight, but none of them have done to their opponents what McHugh has done to the Mariners. The Mariners are hitting just .196 off of McHugh with 33 strikeouts in 112 at bats. He could have a high point output tonight.
Honorable Mention:
Chris Archer, Rays ($8,900): The current Orioles have done a good job against Archer in his career, but how can you ignore Archer’s run of strong starts? He has not given up a run since his first start of the season on April 6th. The bad news? That start was against Baltimore. He allowed three runs and failed to last six innings, but he still racked up 8.66 FanDuel points.
Stay Away:
JORGE DE LA ROSA, Rockies ($6,000): DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES PLAY DE LA ROSA IN ANY LEAGUE TONIGHT. I really can’t say it any more clearly than that. Why am I so adamant about this? The Padres have video game stats on rookie against De La Rosa. They are pummeling him with a .412 average in 153 at bats. Seriously. You want no part of this.
Jon Niese, Mets ($7,700): The Nationals have hit Niese very well. They boast a .325 average off of him in 209 at bats. Spoiler alert: you will see quite a few Nationals on my list tonight.
Catchers:
Best Bet:
A.J. Pierzynski, Braves ($2,900): Pierzynski is three for ten with two doubles and two RBI off of Jason Marquis. He is also off to a great start this year. He is the most reliable option at catcher tonight.
If You’re Cheap:
Wilson Ramos, Nationals ($2,800): Ramos is 4-11 with a homer and three RBI off of Jon Niese. As you will see, this is not an isolated incident. We are just getting started. Niese has been awful against the Nats.
Next: Let's Look At The Infield

First Base:
Best Bet:
Adrian Gonzalez, Dodgers ($4,400): Jeremy Hellickson is a soft tossing right hander. Adrian Gonzalez is a baseball punishing lefthander who is off to a great start. You see where this is going.
If You’re Cheap:
Ryan Zimmerman, Nationals ($2,900): Zimmerman is another guy that has hammered Niese. Seriously, you are going to wish you could have more than four from a team. Zimmerman is 7-17 off of him with a walk, a double, and an RBI. That many times on base will produce some crooked numbers even if he isn’t taking Niese deep.
Second Base:
Best Bet:
Jose Altuve, Astros ($4,700): Just when you thought that Altuve couldn’t set any more Astros records, he broke the franchise mark with eight straight multi-hit games. He is bound to cool off sometime, but it probably won’t be against Taijuan Walker. Altuve is 5-13 with a pair of doubles off of the young righty.
If You’re Cheap:
Dan Uggla ($2,900) or Danny Espinosa ($2,500), Nationals: Whoever the Nationals start, you should consider starting too. Uggla is 10-33 with six walks, three doubles, a triple, and three RBI off of Niese. Espinosa has been even better. He is hitting 7-18 with a double, a homer, and three RBI off of him.
Jedd Gyorko, Padres ($2,200): Yes, he is losing start after start to Yangervis Solarte lately, but Gyorko has hammered Jorge De La Rosa. Check out this stat line: 11-16, five walks, four doubles, and three RBI. I think the Padres have no choice but to start him tonight.
Shortstop:
Best Bet:
Troy Tulowitzki, Rockies ($4,300): Tulo has only faced Brandon Morrow once, but he was one for three with a walk, a double, and an RBI. He has the best track record of the expensive guys, small as the sample may be.
If You’re Cheap:
Asdrubal Cabrera, Rays ($2,700): Asrubal is three for eight with a double, and a solo homer off of Baltimore starter Miguel Gonzalez. He has struggled some this year, but this could help get him going.
Third Base:
Best Bet:
Evan Longoria, Rays ($3,100): Longoria is 7-25 with four walks and a homer off of Gonzalez. Now you see why I like Chris Archer tonight. The Rays have a few guys that have hit Gonzalez hard.
If You’re Cheap:
Will Middlebrooks, Padres ($2,500): Middlebrooks liked what he saw from De La Rosa in his only game against him. He was one for two with a two run triple in that game earlier this year.
Next: Can You Start The Whole Padres Outfield?

Outfielders:
Best Bets:
George Springer, Astros ($3,800): Springer is only two for five off of Taijuan Walker, but one of those hits was a three run homer. Besides that, Springer and the Astros are on a roll. Ride him until he or the team cool off.
Matt Kemp, Padres ($3,700): Kemp has torched Jorge in his career. He is 17-41 with two walks, five doubles, a triple, three homers and fifteen RBI. That’s right. FIFTEEN RBI. Play Kemp with confidence tonight.
Justin Upton, Padres ($3,700): Upton is 8-21 with five walks off of De La Rosa, but only has one extra base hit (a double) and no RBI. His stats pale in comparison to most ofhis teammates against De La Rosa, but with that many guys on, he is bound to get something. If De La Rosa hangs around long enough, that is.
If You’re Cheap:
Steve Pearce, Orioles ($3,200): Pearce has two hits in five career at bats off of Chris Archer, and both of them are home runs.
Nick Markakis, Braves ($3,000): Markakis is 5 for 10 off of Jason Marquis with two walks, two doubles, and an RBI. He is a solid option if you’re broke.
Michael Cuddyer, Mets ($2,700): Cuddyer is an impressive 6-14 with five walks, a double, a homer, and three RBI off of Gio Gonzalez. He is worth a play if you went big on a pitcher.
