Here are my FanDuel pitcher picks for May 3:
High Priced ($8,000 and up):
Best Bet:
Sonny Gray, Athletics ($9,100): Gray is pitching very well this year. He is 3-0 with a 1.98 ERA. He also holds the Rangers to a .184 average off of him in 158 at bats. Josh Hamilton has the only Rangers home run off of Gray, and he is on the disabled list. It keeps looking better and better for Gray.
Honorable Mention:
Anibal Sanchez, Royals ($8,400): Sanchez has dominated the current Royals lineup. They are hitting just .196 off of him without a home run in 143 at bats. He doesn’t strike out a ton of batters, but he has a great shot for a win against Jason Vargas today.
Stay Away:
James Shields, Padres ($8,600): The current Rockies lineup has hit Shields very well. Justin Morneau started in on him when he was with the Rays and Royals. The whole team is hitting .318 with 9 homers and 22 RBI in 132 at bats. Leave him off your team today. There are many better options.
Next: Who Are The Best Mid-Range Options?

Mid Range Options ($6,800-$7,900):
Best Bet:
J.A. Happ, Mariners ($7,300): Happ has dominated the current Astros in his career. They are hitting a paltry .156 off of him in 64 at bats. Happ isn’t a big strikeout guy, but the Astros are as all-or-nothing as they come. They have struck out 13 times in those 64 at bats off of him. The Astros have been hot of late, and I expect Chris Carter to have a good game, but Happ has a great chance for the win against Roberto Hernandez.
Honorable Mention:
Joe Kelly, Red Sox ($6,900): Kelly has held the Yankees to a .181 average in 72 at bats and has not let them take him deep. Also, Adam Warren has struggled against the Red Sox, so Kelly has a great opportunity for a win in this one.
Stay Away
Jeremy Guthrie, Royals ($7,100): Guthrie has had problems with the current Tigers. They are hitting .299 with nine homers and 35 RBI in 224 at bats off of Guthrie. Load up on Tigers hitters today as well, and stay far away from Guthrie.
Next: Who Is The Best Bargain?
Apr 27, 2015; Phoenix, AZ, USA; Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Tyler Matzek (15) throws during the first inning against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field. Mandatory Credit: Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports
Bargains ($6,700 and under):
Best Bet:
Tyler Matzek, Rockies ($5,300): Matzek has held Arizona to a .191 batting average in 47 at bats. In the low range, he is by far the best bet. I wouldn’t recommend anyone else.
Stay Away:
Mike Pelfrey has struggled against the White Sox. Well, John Danks has been bludgeoned by the Twins. This could be a high scoring game judging by how each pitcher has fared against the other team. Don’t bother with either one of them. Spare yourself the headache.
