Diamondbacks’ pitcher Archie Bradley visits a hospitalized 14-year-old who was hit by a liner.

They say misery loves company – and sometimes it makes for a great story.

After taking a comebacker to the face during the second inning of last Tuesday’s game against the Colorado Rockies, Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Archie Bradley stayed home to recover. While recuperating in Arizona, Bradley decided to do some good and visited a 14-year-old fan named Nick at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Nick, like Bradley, was hit by a ball – coincidentally both injuries happened on the same day.

Bradley documented his visit with Nick on Instagram, saying:

"“This is why I love my job! This is Nick a 14 year old who was hit in the face by a line drive the same exact day I was! I got the pleasure to surprise him and his family yesterday at Phoenix children’s hospital @phxchildrens and give him some signed items and just hangout and talk about our injury! He is one tough kid and he really put things in perspective for me about how lucky I am to be able to play this game!”"

Ugh, we love this. It’s a seriously awesome gesture by Bradley.

Is it just us, or have there been a lot of players and spectators being hit by balls this year? It seems as though there has been a trend – and it’s a scary one. For players, it happens every once in a while, though there have been a rash of them lately – the Royals’ Alcides Escobar and Brewers’ Jean Segura are two in just the past week. In just the first month of the 2015 season, there have been fans injured at a Cubs game in and a Reds game – not to mention Kevin in Arizona.

Take a look at Bradley’s face though. He and Nick are two lucky guys in the grand scheme of things.
