There are three games eligible for the early FanDuel tournaments today, so that won’t allow for much diversity in lineups. This is a day where you really want to play on past numbers against today’s starting pitchers.

Here are my early FanDuel lineups for May 6:

Pitchers:

Best Bet:

Ian KennedyPadres ($7,800): I’m guessing that after a couple of rough outings after coming off of the DL that some might be shying away from Kennedy. That makes this a good time to use him. The current Giants are hitting only .235 with two homers off of him in 234 at bats. Statistically, Max Scherzer has not done well against current Marlins hitters, but it is still a small sample size. Many will go with Scherzer anyway. I will try my luck with Kennedy and the offensively challenged Giants.

If You’re Cheap:

Tyler MatzekRockies ($5,300): Matzek is the cheapest hurler out there today, and his history against the Diamondbacks says that this is a great bargain. The snakes are hitting only .191 with two RBI off of him in 47 at bats. If you want the best offense money can buy, Matzek has a good chance at double digit points today.

Catchers:

Best Bet:

Nick HundleyRockies ($3,400): I am guessing that Hundley likely won’t catch both ends of the doubleheader, but his history against Josh Collmenter suggests that he will play in the opener. Hundley is 6-14 with two walks, a double, a homer, and three RBI off of Collmenter. Expect him to have more success today.

Honorable Mention:

Buster PoseyGiants ($3,500): Even if the Giants have to play Posey at first base, look for them to get him in there against Ian Kennedy. He is hitting .405 with four walks, three doubles, and three RBI off of Kennedy in 37 career at bats. Those aren’t huge numbers, but the Giants will take what they can get.

First Base:

Best Bet:

Paul GoldschmidtDiamondbacks ($6,100): Goldy has only faced Matzek three times, but he singled off of him twice. He has a history of destroying left handed pitching, and is a lock for positive points this afternoon.

If You’re Cheap:

Ryan ZimmermanNationals ($2,900): Zimmerman has done very well off of Marlins starter Tom Koehler. He is 4-11 with a walk, a homer, and two RBI off of him. Koehler has struggled to open the season, and it likely won’t get any better facing the Nationals and Max Scherzer today.

Second Base:

Best Bet:

Dee GordonMarlins ($3,800): Gordon has fared very well against Scherzer so far. He is 4-11 with a double, a homer, and two RBI off of the Nationals ace. He has had the second most at bats behind Ichiro Suzuki against Scherzer. His success doesn’t appear to be a fluke.

If You’re Cheap:

Jedd GyorkoPadres ($2,400): He has only faced Chris Heston twice, but he singled and walked against him. Gyorko has been a streaky hitter in his career, and he seems to be on an uptick now. That makes him a solid play.

Shortstop:

Best Bet:

Troy TulowitzkiRockies ($5,100): Tulo is 6-20 with a pair of walks, three doubles, a homer, and four RBI off of Collmenter. Look for Tulo to hit him hard once again.

If You’re Cheap:

Brandon CrawfordGiants ($2,500): Crawford is only hitting .242 (8-33) off of Ian Kennedy, but he has walked twice, and half of the hits have gone for extra bases (three doubles and a triple). He has also driven in three runs. He is the best bet besides Tulo for crooked numbers at SS today.

Third Base:

Best Bet:

Nolan ArenadoRockies ($4,300): Yes, I am aware that Arenado is just two for nine off of Collmenter. I just think he is due. Add to that the fact that Arenado has hit the Arizona bullpen pretty well and none of the other third basemen have good career numbers against opponents today, and you have a good play. Sometimes you have to go with your gut.

If You’re Cheap:

Martin PradoMarlins ($3,000): Prado is three for six with a double in his career off of Scherzer if you’re feeling frisky. You have a 50-50 shot at getting a point or more!

Next: How Does The OF Look?

Outfielders:

Best Bets:

Charlie BlackmonRockies ($4,300): Blackmon is another one of those Rockies players that has done well off of Collmenter. Now do you see why Matzek is a good bet? Blackmon is 5-14 with a walk and a double off of Collmenter, but he has never driven in a run off of him. I wouldn’t be surprised if that changed today.

Carlos GonzalezRockies ($3,800): CarGo has done well in his career off of Collmenter. He is 5-15, but four of those hits are for extra bases. He has walked twice, doubled twice, homered twice, and driven in three runs. Look for him to be a big part of the Rockies’ scoring again today.

Denard SpanNationals ($3,400): Span is 3-8 with a walk, a triple, and an RBI off of Tom Koehler. And he is a good bet to score runs at the top of that lineup. He is a suitable option if you can’t go big.

If You’re Cheap:

Jayson WerthNationals ($2,900): Werth is 4-13 with five walks, two homers, and five RBI off of Tom Koehler. He is one of the safer plays of the day.

Nori AokiGiants ($2,900): Aoki has gone 5-10 off of Ian Kennedy with two walks, a double, and two RBI. He is a solid bet if you spent your money elsewhere.
