Johnny Manziel moves out of downtown Cleveland
Johnny Manziel has moved out of downtown Cleveland and into a suburban golf course community
Johnny Manziel, the 22nd overall pick from the 2014 NFL Draft, had a lot of problems last year. For most fans, the obvious problem he had was his extremely poor play and the awful product which he delivered on the field. There were some reports that Manziel wasn’t taking his role as a professional athlete seriously, but they were that; rumors. After the season ended it came to light that Manziel had a substance abuse problem and that he had been partying during the season.
This came as a shock to some, confirmed the biases of others, and was no surprise to many of us. Manziel checked himself into a rehabilitation facility in an attempt to surely get his life back on track, but also to show to the fans that he was trying to get his career back on track. It is certainly a commendable move on his part. In Manziel’s latest move to steer himself away from his past vices and towards a more stable lifestyle, Manziel has moved out of downtown Cleveland and into a much quieter and no doubt less fun community, according to Ohio.com.
Manziel had previously resided in an apartment at the Metropolitan at the 9, an upscale hotel in the heart of Cleveland only a short walk from numerous places that Manziel might get himself into trouble. Manziel’s new home is in a golf course community in a suburb to the west. He has taken to using golf as an escape and outlet from his previous habits of frequenting night clubs and partying all night. Could this be the new Manziel?
As it stands the Cleveland Browns have two options at quarterback. The first is to roll with free agent acquisition, Josh McCown. McCown is an older player that had some success filling in for an injured Jay Cutler two years ago with the Chicago Bears, but he struggled as the starter for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last year. At his age it’s evident that if McCown were a starter in this league that he would have found his place already. The alternative for the Browns is to instead give Manziel a legitimate shot at quarterback.
Manziel only played six quarters of football last year, and only one complete game. He performed horrendously, but that’s such a small sample size to just a player’s ability.
Teammate, Donte Whitner believes that Manziel has what it takes to be the starting quarterback for the Browns,
“The physical attributes, the fiery type of guy and the things that he brings to an offense and the problems he can give you on the defensive side of the football with that extra being able to get out of the pocket and let guys run free, I still believe that he can do those things.”
Manziel has moved out of Cleveland and he’s moved away from substance abuse, and hopefully he can move away from being the quarterback he was last year too.
