Everett Golson announced his transfer from Notre Dame on Thursday afternoon and the internet basically melted. The senior quarterback had quite the rocky career with the Fighting Irish and now it’s coming to an end, somewhat abruptly.
Although the Irish are losing their two-year starting QB, they have Malik Zaire, a talented dual-threat who was ranked the No. 5 player at his position for the class of 2013. Let’s just say people close to Notre Dame are very excited that the Zaire era has begun.
Golson is now looking for a new home, however, and it could be down to two main schools. One is home state program South Carolina and the other is close-to-home school Georgia.
Both schools seem to have interest in the senior gunslinger who once led the Irish to the national title game as a freshman, but the interest shown back at them is unclear as to who the favorite might be.
The Bulldogs might be a perfect fit for Golson as their quarterback, Hutson Mason, is graduating this year and the team will have to rely on a first-year starter otherwise. Everett could join a talented Bulldogs squad and take them to the next level. Some fans are even trying to recruit him to join the team in Athens.
It seems like the Bulldogs official Twitter account likes the idea of Golson coming to join the Dawgs by favoriting a fan’s tweet telling him to come to Athens and help Georgia win a national title.
While people at Notre Dame might seem pretty happy to be relying on a redshirt sophomore to lead the team without much starting experience, Golson still has great tools and skills that could take a team to the next level.
Everett had a tough finish to the 2014 season as it looked, at first, like Notre Dame would contend for a national title, but it fell apart. However, his numbers were pretty impressive as he threw for 3,445 yards, 29 touchdowns and 14 interceptions while completing 60 percent of his passes.
People who say Golson isn’t worth going after are crazy. Add him to a team like Georgia and Mark Richt might finally have the missing piece to the championship puzzle.
