Pedro scores on a bicycle kick against Real Sociedad (Video)
The FC Barcelona forward completed a ridiculous play on a rebound to give the club a 2-0 advantage over Real Sociedad.
The bicycle kick is easily the best move to perform in soccer.
Back in my salad days of amateur soccer, when I played just for the love of the game and a chance to have a Capri Sun, the bicycle kick was constantly attempted. A player, usually one whose father played soccer somewhere other than in the United States, would try to unnaturally force the ball into a position up in the air, in a position where the bicycle kick was seemingly the best option.
One way to do this would be to kick the ball hard in the general direction of a poor defender’s feet. That defender, unable to properly “kill” the ball, would flail their legs out in a lunging manner, usually catching a piece of the ball. The ball would then climb into the air, allowing the bicycle kicker to face away from the goal and wait before attempting to windmill the ball into the net. Few of them connected with the ball. All of them fell on their butt.
During one of these games, one kid was able to make solid contact with the ball. It soared far over the net and onto the adjacent baseball diamond. Every player was in awe; we had basically just seen Pele.
That is why whenever I see a play like the one made by Pedro from FC Barcelona happen in a game, I can’t help but be happy.
He didn’t need to attempt the bicycle kick, but he did and it was beautiful. Nobody ever needs to take a bicycle kick. Nobody ever needs to fall in love either.
The goal gave FC Barcelona a 2-0 lead in the game, a mark which would stand for the rest of the game. Barca currently rests at the top of the standings in La Liga at 29 wins, 4 losses and 3 draws. There are only two more weeks in the calender for the La Liga season, but this is one of the season’s highlights for Barca.
