Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator John DeFilippo says Johnny Manziel has been “a consummate professional” so far during offseason activities.

The Cleveland Browns had a rocky first year with quarterback Johnny Manziel and he has spent the offseason trying to better himself. So far it has worked and he is making a great impression on the Browns new offensive coordinator John DeFilippo.

“All I know is this: From the moment he stepped in this building from the last two weeks, he’s been nothing but a consummate professional,” DeFilippo said, via Cleveland.com. “He’s spent every hour that he’s been allowed to spend in this building. We give them worksheets every Tuesday and every Friday, and they’re done to the unbelievable detail that we need an NFL quarterback to do. From that standpoint, like I said I can’t predict the future, but all I can do is tell you right now Johnny Manziel is putting himself in a position to be a quarterback in the NFL.”

It is worth noting that DeFilippo was coaching Derek Carr in Oakland last season so he wasn’t around to see the 2014 Johnny Manziel. That might work in favor of Manziel, having a clean slate with DeFilippo to work with.

It isn’t just DeFilippo who is noticing either though, Browns general manager Ray Farmer made similar comments recently and said Manziel was dialed in.

“Johnny’s been good since he’s been around the Browns family,” Farmer said. “I commend the young man for taking the necessary steps that he felt were needed to take. That being said, since he’s been back here, he’s been good. He’s doing everything he’s been asked to do. He seems dialed in and focused and that’s what it’s about, making football his first priority for us on this end, but, again, inevitably, we’re really focused on making sure the young man has his life together.”

Could be Manziel setting himself up for a big year at 2015 and a strong training camp. That’s when we’ll really see if there is any truth and merit to the new Manziel stories.
