Dez Bryant told La’el Collins that Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones would have his back.
La’el Collins saw his draft stock drop and consequently wasn’t selected by any NFL team, in-part to some campaigning to not be drafted in late rounds. The Dallas Cowboys were amongt the teams interested in Collins as an undrafted free agent and ultimately signed the offensive lineman who was projected to go in the first-round.
So why did Collins choose the Cowboys? He said he wanted to come to Dallas and be a part of the their great offensive line and contend for championships.
After he signed Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant called to give him some reassurnaces as well, telling Collins that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones would have his back and support him.
Given what Collins has gone through that could be of significance and importance to him, and Dez Bryant definitely knows what he is talking about in regards to this matter. During his tenure with the Cowboys he has seen his fair share of incidents ranging from beefs with Lil Wayne at night clubs, getting kicked out of malls, to a domestic dispute with his mother and a rumored video about some other incident.
Through it all, Jones has had Bryant’s back and allowed him to flourish into one of the league’s best wide receivers.
Bryant’s praise and vouching for the Cowboys organization came after Collins had signed with team, so he didn’t sway his decision. But it could serve as a sort of reassurance to Collins that he came to the right place.
Jones seems particularly attached and moved by Collins’ story and struggle, nearly coming to tears during his introductory press conference.
