Gareth Bale won’t leave Real Madrid, per agent
Gareth Bale has been the subject of many transfer rumors, but his agent says he’s staying at Real Madrid.
With leagues around the world coming to an end in the next few weeks, the soccer world is buzzing about the possibility of the electric Gareth Bale being transferred away from Real Madrid. That may be a great deal of smoke with no fire, though.
According to an interview from The Telegraph, Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, says there is no chance that he leaves the Spanish giant this summer. “Every top club in the world would want to sign him, but he will be at Real Madrid next season,” Barnett said in the interview.
The 25-year-old Bale, who came to prominence on an international level at Tottenham Hotspur in the Barclay’s Premier League, has struggled mightily for Madrid this season. He’s scored just 21 goals in 51 appearances. His lack of scoring, among other things, have only helped to fuel the rumors of a possible transfer this summer.
Barnett addressed the perceived poor play from Bale this season, saying that the crux of the issue is that he’s not getting enough touches on the ball. Barnett referenced the first leg of the Champions League semifinal against Juventus from this week in support of that argument, noting that Bale covered more ground than five of his teammates, but only had 32 touches in all. He was skewered for only attempting 19 passes in the game, but having only 32 touches makes that seem far less condemning.
Bale would certainly be one of the most coveted commodities on the transfer market if he were to want out of Madrid, evidenced by his being linked to English giants Manchester United and Chelsea in the slew of rumors surrounding his transfer. After all, he is but 25 years old with undeniable physical skills, elite speed, and supreme free-kick abilities.
Moreover, he might be better suited playing for a club that would be able to feature his abilities. One of the reasons he went for a record transfer fee to Real Madrid in 2013 was that he was far and away the star for Tottenham. For Madrid, he’s merely another top-class piece on their exceedingly expensive roster.
Any conjecture on that matter is all for naught at this point, though. Barnett maintains that Bale is set to weather the storm in Madrid and that Bale’s past claims that this is where he wants to be remain true. Even if it’s not what’s best for here, the word now is that Bale will be back in La Liga with Madrid once again next season.
