Soccer player gets kicked on-air by fan
Venezuelan soccer player attacked by a fan during a live post-game TV interview.
No one ever said that soccer fans were rational. They are like college football fans in the south. One Venezuelan fan, in particular, took his anger to a whole other level.
Aquile Ocanto, a striker for Carabobo FC in the Primera Division Venezolana, was being interviewed by Maria Alexandra Bastidas, a reporter for Meridiano Television. During the post-game interview, a fan ran up behind Octanto and drop-kicked the striker in the back, causing him to fall to the floor in pain.
Perhaps the fan was unhappy with Carabobo’s 0-0 draw with Aragua?
Seriously though, this kick was forceful enough that it sent Ocanto flying out of the frame, inadvertently knocking over Bastidas in the process.
The entire altercation was caught on video, since, you know, they were in the middle of a live on-air interview and all.
For those of you who do not speak Spanish, that roughly translates to: Incredible. Only in Venezuela.

Carabobo FC has confirmed that Ocanto is doing relatively well, recovering from the injuries he suffered during the on-air attack. The club also maintained that they “reject such acts of violence in football.”
That’s a good start, but they might want to consider bulking up post-game security while they’re at it.
Though this fan reaction is pretty nerve-wracking, we’ve certainly seen reactions worse than this. Anyone remember when a referee stabbed and killed a player in Brazil? And then the player’s family and friends proceeded to publicly dismember and decapitate said referee?
So yes, it could be worse. Still, a scary moment for all involved, especially that television reporter. She is just trying to do her job, but ends up in the line of fire.
Let’s all just calm down for a second and put this game (yes, it is a game) in perspective. Huh?
