11 of the 15 games are in the evening today, so that means 22 pitchers to choose from tonight. It can be somewhat overwhelming looking at that many pitchers, but there are a few that stick out. Who are they? Let’s take a look!

Here are my late FanDuel pitcher picks for May 16:
High Priced ($8,000 and up):
Best Bet:
Max Scherzer, Nationals ($11,000): Why Scherzer and not Felix Hernandez? The proof is in the stats. The current Red Sox players are hitting .256 off of Felix. Current Padres are only hitting .167 off of Scherzer in 72 at bats with 27 strikeouts. They have managed to take him deep three times, but if people aren’t on base, it won’t hurt you much. And those strikeouts are appetizing.
Honorable Mention:
Danny Salazar, Indians ($8,700): Salazar was brilliant last Sunday, so Cleveland gave him an extra day of rest. We all know that this can be a blessing or a curse for a pitcher, so there is a marginal risk involved. Salazar has only faced the Rangers once, but he was very good and got the win against them. He also has a great shot for a win opposite Colby Lewis.
Stay Away:
Matt Shoemaker, Angels ($8,500): Simply put, he isn’t worth it. The price tag is enough to make this laughable. The Orioles are a good offense, and Shoemaker has a 6.61 ERA with only 31 strikeouts on the year. I wouldn’t even start him at $5,800!
Next: Who Headlines The Mid Range Options?
May 10, 2015; Milwaukee, WI, USA; Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Matt Garza (22) pitches in the first inning against the Chicago Cubs at Miller Park. Mandatory Credit: Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports
Mid Range Options ($7,000-$8,000):
Best Bet:
Matt Garza, Brewers ($7,300): Garza pitched well in his last outing, and he gets to take on the light hitting Mets. Not only that, but Garza has dominated the Mets. They are hitting just .174 in 69 at bats off of him with 16 strikeouts. Curtis Granderson in the only Met that has had any success against Garza. He has four of the five RBI that the current Met roster has off of Garza!
Honorable Mention:
Archie Bradley, Diamondbacks ($7,300): Bradley has dazzled early on in his rookie year. He is 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA in four starts. He is fresh off the DL after being hit in the face by a comebacker on April 28th, but he gets to face the Phillies, who have been cold on offense for most of the year. He could be a sneaky source of big points.
Stay Away:
Ubaldo Jimenez, Orioles ($7,200): Jimenez will start in place of Bud Norris and his 9.88 ERA today. Supposedly it is an illness, not his ERA, that is making Norris sit out today. It is worth noting that that ERA could be what is making him ill. Anyway, Jimenez has been thumped by the Angels. They are hitting a robust .356 with two homers and 14 RBI with just ten strikeouts in 59 at bats. Ubaldo has a great chance to beat Shoemaker, but how many runs will he give up along the way? My guess is enough to offset the four points you gain for the win.
Next: Who's Best If You're Cheap?
Apr 26, 2015; Chicago, IL, USA; Chicago White Sox starting pitcher John Danks (50) throws a pitch against the Kansas City Royals during the first inning at U.S Cellular Field. Mandatory Credit: Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports
Cheap Options ($6,900 and under):
Best Bet:
John Danks, White Sox ($6,500): Danks has had a rough season so far, but he has done well in his career against the current Oakland lineup. He has held them to a .185 average in 119 at bats while not allowing a home run. Jesse Chavez has been up and down this year, so Danks should have a solid shot at a win as well. Don’t expect a lot of strikeouts, but he should be a solid value tonight.
Honorable Mention:
Jorge De La Rosa, Rockies ($5,200): This is a tough one for me. On one hand, De La Rosa is 0-2 with a Bud Norris-like 9.56 ERA this season. On the other, he has held the Dodgers to a .239 average in 184 at bats. The only Dodger who has had any success off of Jorge is Adrian Gonzalez, who is hitting .370 with three of the four homers and 14 of the 24 team RBI off of De La Rosa. Which Jorge will you get? It’s hard telling, but if he gets a win and you have the best offense money can buy, you could be laughing all the way to the bank or crying all the way to the poor house. There is likely no in between here.
Stay Away:
Marco Estrada, Brewers ($6,700): Estrada has been knocked around some by the Astros. They have three homers off of him and a .300 average in 40 at bats. The only other pitcher with a bad record against his opponent today is Ryan Vogelsong, but he has only given up one earned run in his last two starts combined.
