After deciding to transfer out of Notre Dame a couple of weeks ago, former Irish quarterback Everett Golson has decided to head to Florida State.

After a couple weeks of speculation, with Georgia and South Carolina being anointed the front-runners from the start, former Notre Dame Fighting Irish starting quarterback Everett Golson has decided to transfer to Florida State.

Many believed he would be picking a school closer to his home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, to play his senior season and Florida State seems to be close enough as he will join an already-loaded roster and incoming recruiting class.

Golson obviously wanted to play for a proven winner, so why not pick a team that the Fighting Irish lost to in 2014 and made the College Football Playoff for the first time.

Florida State had also won the national title in 2013 before losing in the round of four — or the first round — of the College Football Playoff in 2014. The Seminoles, led by head coach Jimbo Fisher, have been building a legit program that seems to be contending for titles year in and year out while recruiting the nation’s top talent.

Golson is a proven winner, even leading Notre Dame to the national title game during his freshman season in 2012 before getting suspended for all of 2013 by head coach Brian Kelly.

For Florida State, this has to be refreshing news because the team was expected to name junior Sean Maguire the starter after just one career start and backing up Jameis Winston for the past two years.

Going from Winston to Maguire probably wouldn’t have been the smoothest transition, but the addition of a veteran Golson has to be a good pick-me-up for Florida State fans and coaching staff — as well as his new fellow teammates.

Don’t be surprised if the Seminoles make the College Football Playoff once again this year now that they have a guy who has played in a national title game before and knows what it takes to get there. Golson will take full advantage of the loaded roster around him with solid young receiving talent, and Dalvin Cook behind him in the backfield.

Florida State just became a much scarier team in the ACC with the addition of Golson and it may be yet another season in which the Seminoles run away with the conference crown.
