Stephen Colbert blasts Wake Forest
Stephen Colbert slams Wake Forest athletics at the University’s own commencement ceremony.
When you book a comedian to give your University’s commencement address, you get what you pay for. Literally. The Wake Forest administration is the latest group to find that out.
While giving an address to the Wake Forest University Class of 2015, Stephen Colbert proceeded to slam the school’s mediocre football team, though mediocre might be too nice of a word. Since 2011, the Demon Deacons have records of 6-7, 5-7, 4-8 and 3-9. That’s the exact opposite of a positive trajectory.
"“While Wake has been a trail blazer, this has been a school that respects traditions, traditions like rolling the quad with toilet paper after big wins. And this is actually an eco-friendly tradition because, looking at this season’s win-loss record, you guys saved a lot of paper.”"
I’d like to think that Colbert, a South Carolina native, is just trying to troll a school in North Carolina. Either way, his words are pretty accurate.

To be fair to Wake Forrest, though, Colbert’s alma mater is Northwestern University. While the Wildcats managed to win the Gator Bowl in 2012, that was their first bowl win since the 1948 Rose Bowl. World War II had only been over for 3 years in 1948. So, maybe Colbert didn’t exactly have the right to slam Wake, but I’m still glad he did it.
Colbert, formerly the brilliant star of his epinonymous Comedy Central show, “The Colbert Report,” left the network to go main stream. He will be taking over “The Late Show” for David Letterman, whose last show will be Wednesday night.
