Starting pitching is a like a revolving door. One man leaves the rotation and another one hops right in. This is what happened to Kansas City Royals pitcher Chris Young. He was in the bullpen for the first month of the season. But, he joined the rotation after an elbow injury to Jason Vargas and hasn’t looked back. If he is available in your league, regardless of size, pick him up now.
After making five starts, Vargas hit the disabled list with an elbow injury. Lucky for Young, there is no timetable for Vargas’ return.

Young made one start on May 1, pitching five shutout innings, walked three and struck out nine on his way to his second win. He went back to the bullpen after that, but quickly returned to the rotation four days later. In his last three starts, he went 19.2 innings, giving up one run on 13 hits and four walks while striking out seven. He went 2-0 in those outings.
He has dominated all season, regardless of when he pitches. He has a 4-0 record, 0.78 ERA, 0.75 WHIP, nine walks and 23 strikeouts. I would his bullpen outings help his ERA, but that is clearly not the case. He has a 0.40 ERA and 0.88 WHIP in four games as a starter.
Manager Ned Yost has not made a decision on removing Young from the rotation when Vargas comes back. “When we get to the point where we have to make a decision, we’ll do it like we always do,” he said. “We’ll sit down with the coaches, with [general manager] Dayton [Moore] and do what’s right.”

If Young is moved back to the bullpen, I would still pick him up. He is a Dellin Betances-like relief pitcher. He doesn’t allow batters to get on base or score and can pitch multiple innings.
Despite the great outings, Young is owned in just 39.4 percent of ESPN.com leagues. While there has been an increase of 15 percent, he needs to be owned in more leagues. His next start will come on May 27 against the New York Yankees. faced the Yankees on May 15, going 5.2 innings and allowing one earned run for the win.
If you are looking for a starting pitching help, Chris Young is a pitcher to grab off the waiver wire.
